The past week we have been busy cleaning the house top to bottom (thanks Mom!), assembling baby equipment (thanks dad!), installing the car seat, attending a "surprise" baby shower and escaping to Howell for a get away weekend!
Joel's class threw us a surprise baby shower! I knew about it ahead of time and took a 1/2 day off of work so I could attend, but I didn't tell Joel. While talking to a co-worker early in the week about my 1/2 day off to attend the shower I discovered that my work was planning on throwing me a surprise baby shower that same day and that Joel was planning on attending! What an odd coincidence! My work re-scheduled mine so Joel's could continue to be a surprise. I almost made it to the shower without giving Joel any clues, but the night before we were chatting and I accidentally said that I was taking a 1/2 day the next day and that got his wheels turning and he kinda figured it out even though I tried to cover up...I'm not a very good liar! Joel still acted surprised and we had a lot of fun playing baby games with the kids, eating baby food, having snacks and even wearing adult diapers! They bought us the Baby Einstein Jumper which I am so excited to have and they gave us a book of advice from the students on all things baby...very funny!
We got the green light from Dr Strong to go some place for Spring Break...4 hours from home was our limit though...so we naturally went to Howell, MI! Even though it wasn't some place warm like Florida it still felt fabulous to get away from home and relax. We shopped at IKEA, ate good Mexican food, swam in the hotel pool, watched a movie during the day, shopped at the outlet malls and ate a lot of junk food...a recipe for a great weekend!
I am still feeling pretty good..just getting bigger every day it feels like and anticipating my 1st contractions!!! Joel is getting anxious to hold/play with the baby!

37 Weeks...Watermelon
The past couple of weeks have been action packed! Alison (and the girls) threw the baby the best shower ever! It started out with adorable invitations and no detail was overlooked...from the food to the decorations to the homemade stuff animals! We played a few games...a word unscramble and a trait comparison. The reactions from the guest to some of my choices of whose traits I hope the baby has were so funny! I gave Joel the trait comparison quiz when I got home and I wasn't too far off! I left feeling so thankful for the love and support of our friends and family! I know our baby will be truly blessed by the people in it's life!
The haul after the shower! We just put it all in the baby's room initially and over the next few days unpacked, washed and assembled it all!
ICCF has hired my replacement for while I am on maternity leave and job share partner after I come back. Training him has been VERY busy and a little stressful to say the least. I have put in a lot of OT hours and am looking forward to having the baby and getting some time away from work!
I have started having doctor's appointments weekly. Last week, 36 weeks, there was no progress yet. We are okay with that though. There is still lots to do...wash all of the new baby stuff, install the car seat, write Thank you notes, figure out insurance for the baby, etc. I have had a realization lately...women have to do so much...carry the baby, deliver the baby, figure out maternity leave, find a pediatrician, go to doctor appointments, go to showers, write thank you notes, etc...what is the guy's role in all of this?!?!?
Jodie and Justin welcomed a new baby boy, Tyler James Gritter, on Wednesday, April 23!!! He is so precious and has a head full of dark beautiful hair! We are so thankful that they had a good pregnancy and labor and we look forward to Tyler meeting his new BFF or girlfriend!
My controversial game answers along with Joel's answers as well! |

Predictions...
Everyone has an opinion about what the gender of the baby is. In order to give credit where credit is due when it is all said and done we thought we would document people's predictions...

How you know you are going to be a mom soon...
1. You once were a fast driver and now you find yourself in the slow lane, scolding those who pass you going fast and praying for their safety!
2. You love to wash and fold baby clothes.
3. At Christmas you are more excited to see what the baby gets versus the gifts for yourself.
4. You are looking forward to a reason to read children's books.
5. Your conversations now revolve around breast feeding.
6. Rolling over in bed becomes something you think about for 3 minutes before you actually do it.
7. Your boss greets you in the morning with a "Hey Chubby!" and thinks it is okay.
8. Common words you use are Boppy, Bumbo, Baby Bjorn..etc.
9. You are so excited to get your cloth diapers in the mail!
10. Peeing your pants becomes a normal daily occurrence.

8th Grade girl's basketball...
LEAGUE CHAMPS!!!!! It was an exciting season with several close games and last minute wins! The girls did an amazing job playing and Joel had a ton of fun working with them. If it wasn't for the two teams that had 9th graders on their team they would have taken 1st in the tournament as well.
Joel and the girls planned a team service project at "My Brother's House". They threw the residents a pizza party with BINGO, prizes and Dance Dance Revolution. It was hard to tell if the residents or the girls had more fun!
